What is Petrolatum CAS 8009-03-8?

Vaseline, a grease derived from petroleum, is produced by carefully mixing the residual wax paste with the lubricating oil and refining it. In the fields of medicine, daily chemicals and fine chemicals, it plays an indispensable role and is also an important lubricant for precision instruments.

In China, the application of vaseline products is particularly extensive, among which medical vaseline occupies an important position. Medical vaseline is available in two colors: white and yellow. It is mainly used in the preparation of ointments, skin care ointments and cosmetic raw materials. At the same time, it plays a crucial role as an anti-rust and lubricating material for medical equipment and precision instruments.

This white or slightly yellowish homogeneous paste, almost odorless and tasteless, is actually a mixture of liquid and solid paraffin hydrocarbons. Its relative density ranges from 0.815 to 0.830, viscosity is 0.01 to 0.02 Pa·s (at 100℃), flash point is greater than 190℃ (open type), and the drop point is approximately 37 to 54℃. Vaseline is readily soluble in solvents such as ether, petroleum ether, various fatty oils, benzene, carbon disulfide and chloroform, but insoluble in ethanol and almost insoluble in water. When heated, it will turn into a transparent liquid. And after being exposed to ultraviolet light, it will emit fluorescence in the dark.

According to the differences in application scope and production requirements, vaseline can now be roughly classified into multiple categories such as common vaseline, industrial vaseline, capacitor vaseline, cosmetic vaseline, medical vaseline and food-grade vaseline. For instance, common Vaseline is suitable for formulating various lubricants and is widely used in fields such as furniture maintenance. Industrial Vaseline is often used for rust prevention and lubrication of metal devices and general mechanical parts. Cosmetic vaseline and medical vaseline are the products that the public pays the most attention to.

# The Diverse Skincare Benefits of Vaseline

In today's beauty and skincare field, a wide variety of specialized products are available, providing us with rich choices to solve different skin problems. However, there are always some careless moments in life. Just like when we are out and about, we clearly know there are special makeup removers, but we just leave them at home in a hurry. Don't worry. Vaseline, which seems ordinary, can be our reliable savior in an emergency.

When we need to remove our makeup and there are no professional makeup remover products around, Vaseline can come in handy. Just gently apply an appropriate amount of Vaseline to the made-up areas of your face, and then gently massage in circular motions with your fingers for about 10 seconds. During this brief massage process, Vaseline can fully come into contact with the makeup and start to dissolve the oil components in the cosmetics. Next, take a clean cotton pad, dip it in an appropriate amount of makeup remover water, and gently wipe your face. At this point, Vaseline will be wiped off along with the dissolved makeup by the makeup remover. However, to ensure that the face is thoroughly cleaned, it is necessary to wash it carefully again with facial cleanser. After going through such steps, our faces can regain their freshness and cleanliness, as if we have just completed a small skin care "emergency operation".

In addition to emergency makeup removal, Vaseline also has a unique effect in removing blackheads. The blackheads on our faces are always secretly hidden deep in the pores, like stubborn "little monsters", making the skin look less fresh and smooth. Vaseline has the ability to melt fat and absorb dirt. More importantly, it is mild in nature and does not cause irritation to the skin. This undoubtedly provides strong support for our battle against acne. We can evenly apply a thick layer of Vaseline on the areas where blackheads are more obvious, as if putting on a layer of "protective armor" for the skin. Then, cover it with a layer of cling film. This can prevent Vaseline from evaporating easily and enhance its "battle" effect against blackheads. Wait quietly for a quarter of an hour and then wash off the Vaseline with warm water. At this point, you will find that some blackheads have been "pulled out" by Vaseline. However, it should be noted that although this deep cleansing method is effective, it is like giving the skin a "thorough cleaning". It should not be used too frequently; using it once in a while is sufficient to avoid over-cleaning and damaging the skin.

For young women, wrinkles around the eyes are often a major skin problem that troubles them. The reason for this is often that the skin around the eyes is dry and lacks water. In this case, Vaseline can also exert its moisturizing advantages. After using the lotion, while the skin is still in a moist state, gently apply a layer of Vaseline. This layer of Vaseline is like a solid "moisturizing barrier", which can lock in the moisture in the lotion and further enhance the moisturizing effect. Keep the skin around the eyes hydrated for a period of time, as if enjoying a "moisture SPA" all the time. After some time, wash off the Vaseline with warm water. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that the wrinkles around your eyes seem to have improved to a certain extent and become more delicate and smooth.

The skin around the lips is relatively delicate and is prone to dryness, peeling and even wrinkles due to the influence of the external environment. At this point, Vaseline can act as a lip mask. We can evenly apply Vaseline to our lips, as if putting on a "moisturizing protective suit" for them. Then, gently apply a hot towel to your lips. The heat emitted by the hot towel can promote the better penetration of Vaseline into the lip skin and accelerate blood circulation in the lips. During this process, the aged stratum corneum on some lips will also gradually fall off during the cleaning process. As long as such a care method is adhered to for a long time, the skin on the lips can be significantly improved, reducing wrinkles on the lips and making them softer and smoother. In this way, when we apply lipstick, our lips can present a more perfect state, making the color of the lipstick more vivid and charming.

For girls who often curl their eyelashes, the health of their eyelashes is also a key concern for them. Each time mascara is applied, although it can instantly make the eyelashes curly and charming, it can also easily cause certain damage to the eyelashes, making them fragile and prone to falling out. However, with Vaseline, this problem can be well solved. After removing makeup, use clean fingers to dip an appropriate amount of Vaseline and carefully apply it to the base of the eyelashes. The ingredients in Vaseline can nourish the eyelash follicles, providing sufficient nutrition for the eyelashes and gradually making them longer and thicker. Just like giving the eyelashes a meticulous "care SPA", allowing them to be fully cared for and nourished at night, thus becoming stronger and healthier, and playing a very good role in protecting the eyelashes.

In addition, Vaseline can also become the "guardian angel" of nails. It can provide nutrients for nails and promote their healthy growth. When hangnails appear around our nails, Vaseline can also play a significant role. Apply Vaseline to your nails and the surrounding skin, and gently massage for a moment. Vaseline can soften hangnails and make them easier to clean. Meanwhile, it can also add luster to nails, making them look healthier and more beautiful, as if they had been carefully tended to.

Although Vaseline may seem ordinary, it has many wonderful uses in the field of skin care. Whether it's emergency makeup removal, blackhead removal, eye wrinkle relief, lip care, eyelash protection or nail care, it can solve various skin problems for us with its own characteristics and become an indispensable skin care helper in our daily life.
