Folacin CAS 59-30-3 Folic Acid

What is Folacin CAS 59-30-3 Folic Acid?

Chinese name: Folic acid

English name: Folic acid

Chinese alternative name: Butterylglutamic acid N - (4 - ((2-amino-4-oxo-1, 4-dihydro-6-teridine) methylamino) benzoyl) -L-glutamic acid; Vitamin B9, anti-anemia factor, vitamin M, vitamin C, etc

Molecular formula: C₁₉H₁₉N₇O₆

Molecular weight: 441.40

Physical properties

Appearance: Light orange-yellow crystals or thin slices, odorless.

Solubility: Soluble in hot dilute hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, slightly soluble in acetic acid, phenol, pyridine, hydroxide base and carbonate base solutions, slightly soluble in methanol, insoluble in ethanol and butanol, insoluble in ether, acetone, chloroform and benzene. The solubility of folic acid in water at 25℃ is only 0.0016mg/mL, and it is approximately 1% soluble in boiling water. The pH of 1g of folic acid suspension in 10mL of water is 4.0-4.8. Its sodium salt is readily soluble in water, but unstable in aqueous solution and prone to decomposition when exposed to light.

Melting point: Approximately 250℃. When heated to around 250℃, the color gradually darkens and eventually turns into a black gel-like substance. There is no definite melting point.

Density: 1.68g/cm³

Stability: Stable in the air, but decomposes and loses vitality when exposed to ultraviolet light. It is unstable to heat in acidic solutions but relatively stable in neutral and alkaline environments. It will not be damaged even after being heated at high temperatures for one hour.

Folacin CAS 59-30-3 Folic Acid Use

Medical field

Clinical treatment: It is used for various types of megaloblastic anemia, especially suitable for megaloblastic anemia in pregnant women and infants. It can also be used to treat anemia in women. 5 milligrams of folic acid can be used for this treatment.

Prenatal care: It is particularly important for pregnant women. A deficiency of folic acid in the first three months of pregnancy can lead to neural tube development defects in the fetus and increase the incidence of cleft brain and anencephaly. Regular supplementation of folic acid by pregnant women can prevent low birth weight, premature birth and congenital malformations such as cleft palate in infants. Pregnant women taking 0.4 milligrams of folic acid during the preconception period can reduce the rate of neural tube defects in the fetus by 85%. This result has been widely applied in more than 50 countries around the world.

Other functions: It promotes the development of nerve cells and brain cells in infants and young children and can be used as an auxiliary therapeutic agent for related diseases. It also has anti-tumor effects and can be used as an adjunctive treatment for schizophrenia patients to alleviate related symptoms.

In the field of food additives: It is used as a nutritional fortifier to enhance the nutritional value of food, promote the absorption of elements such as iron and zinc by the human body, and help maintain normal physiological functions. It is often added to special diets such as infant food, food for pregnant women, and food for the elderly. The specific addition amount may vary depending on the product formula and production process, generally following relevant national standards and regulations on the use of food additives.

In the industrial field, it can be used as a synthetic intermediate and chemical raw material for manufacturing products such as cosmetics, plastics and pharmaceuticals. It can also be used to synthesize other chemical substances, such as folate, folate esters, etc.

In the field of chemical engineering: It can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other drugs and participate in various chemical reaction processes.
