Propionyl Bromide CAS 598-22-1

What is Propionyl Bromide CAS 598-22-1?

Propionyl bromide (CAS 598-22-1) is a highly active but high-risk acyl halide reagent:

Synthesis criticality: An irreplaceable intermediate for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and polymer materials, with strong reactivity.

High-risk operation: Strong corrosion, flammable, explosive upon contact with water. Strict protection is required. Storage should be protected from light and moisture.

Industrial universality: Price as low as ¥1/kg (industrial grade), suitable for large-scale purchasing.

Propionyl Bromide CAS 598-22-1 Use

Purpose:

Pharmaceutical intermediates: Synthesis of antifungal drugs (such as chloropropyne iodine), amino acid derivatives.

Organic synthesis: Preparation of acyl bromide derivatives and polycarbonate monomers.

Synthesis process:

Mainstream method: Anhydrous propionic acid + bromine → red phosphorus catalysis, reaction temperature 90-100℃ → purification by vacuum distillation.

Yield: ≥73%, purity can reach 99%.

Propionyl Bromide CAS 598-22-1 safety

Hazardous characteristics:

Strong corrosiveness: Burns may occur upon contact with skin, eyes or respiratory tract (Risk Indication: R34).

Flammable and explosive: Vapor mixed with air forms an explosive mixture (flash point 52℃).

It reacts violently with water: generating hydrogen bromide and acetic acid, and releasing a pungent gas (R14).

Protective measures:

When operating, wear anti-corrosion gloves, goggles and gas masks, and carry out the operation in a fume hood.

Leakage treatment: Adsorb with sand or inert materials. Do not rinse with water.

Storage requirements:

Keep away from light, moisture and refrigeration (2-8 ℃), and keep away from oxidants, alkalis and alcohols.
