 Petrolatum Information

Vaseline is a petroleum grease, refined from a mixture of residual wax paste and lubricating oil. It is widely used in our country, mainly in medical vaseline, which is divided into two types: medical white vaseline and medical yellow vaseline. These two types of medical vaseline are mainly used in the preparation of ointments, skin care ointments and cosmetic raw materials. At the same time, they can also be used as anti-rust and lubricating materials for medical equipment and precision instruments.

Vaseline, a white or slightly yellowish homogeneous paste, is almost odorless and tasteless, and is a mixture of liquid and solid paraffin hydrocarbons. Its relative density is 0.815-0.830, viscosity is 0.01-0.02Pa·s (at 100℃), flash point is greater than 190℃ (open type), and drop point is approximately 37-54℃. It is readily soluble in ether, petroleum ether, various fatty oils, benzene, carbon disulfide, chloroform and turpentine, insoluble in ethanol and almost insoluble in water. It turns into a transparent liquid when heated and fluoresces in the dark after being exposed to ultraviolet light.

According to the scope of application and production requirements, vaseline is now roughly classified into common vaseline, industrial vaseline, capacitor vaseline, cosmetic vaseline, medical vaseline, food-grade vaseline, etc. For example, common Vaseline is suitable for formulating various lubricants and can be used for furniture maintenance. Industrial Vaseline is often used for rust prevention and lubrication of metal devices and general mechanical parts. Cosmetic vaseline and medical vaseline are the products that people are most concerned about.

Petrolatum Uses

  ●  Makeup removal

In daily life, we often encounter such an awkward situation: Even though we know there are special makeup removers that can effectively help us clean our facial makeup, when we go out, we accidentally forget to bring these makeup removers for various reasons. However, don't worry. In fact, this common little item, Vaseline, can also play an unexpected role in an emergency and become a good helper for us to remove makeup.

When we need to use Vaseline to remove makeup, the first thing to do is to ensure that both our hands and face are clean. Then, take an appropriate amount of Vaseline and gently apply it to the made-up areas on your face. When applying, make sure to cover evenly and do not miss any corner. Next, massage gently with the pads of your fingers for about 10 seconds. This process can enable Vaseline to blend better with the makeup and make it easier to remove. After the massage is completed, take a clean and soft cotton pad or facial tissue, dip it in an appropriate amount of makeup remover water, and gently wipe your face. At this point, most of the makeup should have been able to be wiped off. Finally, to ensure thorough facial cleansing, we also need to wash our face again with facial cleanser. Wet the facial cleanser with warm water, rub it to create foam, then gently massage it on your face for a moment, and finally rinse it off with clean water. In this way, our faces can regain a fresh and clean state. Of course, if you don't have makeup remover water, you can also directly wash your face clean with plain water. Although the effect may be slightly inferior, it can still achieve the purpose of cleaning to a certain extent.

  ●  Remove blackheads

Among our facial skin problems, blackheads are a rather disturbing presence. They often hide beneath the pores, just like a group of "little devils", making our skin no longer look smooth and delicate. Vaseline, however, has a unique effect in removing blackheads.

Vaseline has the properties of melting fat and absorbing dirt. More importantly, it is very gentle on the skin and will not cause harm to the skin like some strongly irritating cleaning products. When we want to use Vaseline to remove blackheads, we can first wash and dry our face. Then, use a clean cotton swab or finger to dip an appropriate amount of vaseline and gently apply it to the blackhead area. Note that a thick layer of vaseline should be applied to ensure better effectiveness. After application, take a piece of cling film and carefully cover the area where Vaseline has been applied, making sure the cling film adheres completely to the skin. Wait for a quarter of an hour to allow Vaseline enough time to soften blackheads and dissolve dirt. After a quarter of an hour, gently remove the cling film and wash your face with warm water. You will find that some of the blackheads that were originally hidden in the pores have been cleaned out. However, it should be noted that although this deep cleansing method works well, it should only be used occasionally. Using it too frequently may impose a certain burden on the skin.

  ●  Relieve eye wrinkles

For young women, the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes often makes them feel anxious and uneasy. In fact, the eye wrinkles of many young women are mainly caused by dryness and lack of water. In this case, Vaseline can come in handy.

After we use lotion for daily skin care, we can apply a thin layer of Vaseline around the eyes. Be especially careful when applying it to avoid Vaseline getting into your eyes. Vaseline can form a protective film on the skin surface, effectively locking in moisture and enhancing the moisturizing effect. Let Vaseline stay on the skin around the eyes for a period of time, such as about 15 to 20 minutes, and then gently wash it off with warm water. Adhering to such a care method for a long time can better reduce the formation of wrinkles around the eyes and keep the skin around the eyes moist and firm.

   ● Lip mask

Vaseline can not only be used for facial and eye care, but also serve as a lip mask to protect our delicate lips. When our lips have problems such as dryness and peeling, we might as well try using Vaseline as a lip mask.

First, apply an appropriate amount of Vaseline to your lips. Try to spread it as evenly as possible to cover the entire lips with Vaseline. Then, take a clean and soft hot towel and gently apply it to your lips. The temperature of a hot towel should not be too high to avoid burning the lips. Generally, it is appropriate when it feels warm and comfortable. After applying a hot towel, you can take a short break to allow Vaseline to better penetrate into the skin of your lips. During this process, we will feel that our lips gradually become moist. After applying a hot towel, gently wipe your lips with a tissue, and you will find that some of the stratum corneum will also fall off along with the wiping. If one can consistently use Vaseline as a lip mask for a long time, it can not only reduce wrinkles on the lips, making them smoother and more delicate, but also make the color of the lipstick more vivid and lasting when applying it, making the lips look more beautiful and charming.

  ●  Remove the residual mascara

For girls who often curl their eyelashes, applying mascara is an indispensable part of their daily makeup. However, frequent application and cleaning of mascara can easily cause damage and loss of eyelashes. At this point, Vaseline can once again exert its protective effect.

After removing our makeup, first use a clean cotton swab to dip a small amount of Vaseline and gently apply it to the base of the eyelashes. When applying, be gentle and avoid pulling the eyelashes. Vaseline can nourish eyelashes, making them longer and thicker. At the same time, it can form a protective film on the surface of the eyelashes to prevent them from being damaged by the external environment. In this way, our eyelashes can remain healthy and beautiful.

   ●  Protect nails

In addition to the care of the face, eyes and lips, Vaseline also performs well in protecting nails.

Our nails sometimes have problems such as being fragile and prone to breakage, dry and lackluster, and Vaseline can help us improve these conditions. Vaseline is rich in nutrients and can provide necessary nutrition for nails, promoting their healthy growth. Meanwhile, it can also be used to soften barbs. When we find hangnails on our fingers, we can apply an appropriate amount of Vaseline to the hangnail area and gently massage for a while to allow the vaseline to fully moisturize the skin and make the hangnails soft and easy to handle. Long-term use of Vaseline for nail care can make nails look more lustrous and beautiful.
