Palmitic acid ethyl ester Uses
Ethyl palmitate is an ester compound synthesized by esterification reaction of palmitic acid (hexadecanoic acid) and ethanol. It has mild chemical properties and good solubility and stability. It is widely used in flavors, fragrances, cosmetics and industrial fields.
I. Flavors and fragrances
(1) Solvents and carriers
Dissolving fat-soluble fragrances: Ethyl palmitate has good solubility for essential oils and synthetic fragrances (such as musk, sandalwood, etc.) and is often used to prepare high-concentration fragrance formulas to avoid crystallization or precipitation of fragrances.
Fragrance carrier: As a carrier in perfumes, scented candles and solid perfumes, it helps the fragrance to be evenly dispersed and slowly release the fragrance, thereby enhancing the layering of the fragrance.
(2) Fixative
Prolonging the fragrance retention time: Its low volatility can slow down the escape rate of volatile fragrances (such as citrus and herbal fragrances) and prolong the durability of the perfume's aftertaste.
Stabilize aroma: In a high temperature environment (such as when a candle is burning), ethyl palmitate can reduce the thermal decomposition of aroma molecules and maintain the stability of the aroma.
(3) Aroma modifier
Soften the edge of the aroma: It has a slight waxy scent, which can neutralize the sharpness of some spices and make the overall fragrance more rounded and natural. It is often used in oriental or woody perfumes.
II. Cosmetics and personal care
(1) Emollients and texture modifiers
Light skin feel: Compared with mineral oil, ethyl palmitate has a lighter texture and is often added to lotions and creams to give the skin a silky touch and reduce stickiness. It is suitable for oily and combination skin.
Synergistic moisturizing: When combined with other oils (such as squalane and jojoba oil), it can enhance the moisturizing effect and improve the extensibility of the formula. It is commonly used in primers and sunscreens.
(2) Application of cosmetic products
Lipstick and foundation: As a lubricant, it improves the smoothness of lipstick and the skin adhesion of foundation, and avoids powder sticking.
Makeup remover: In makeup remover oil or lotion, it helps dissolve waterproof makeup and sunscreen, and gently cleans.
(3) Hair care products
Softening and anti-static: Adding it to conditioner or hair oil can reduce hair frizziness and static electricity, increase gloss, and is especially suitable for dry and damaged hair.
