N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), as a multifunctional polar solvent, is indispensable in the fields of new energy, electronics and chemicals. Although its low toxicity supports industrial applications, the potential chronic toxicity requires strict protection. With the enhancement of environmental protection requirements, the research and development of green alternative solvents (such as dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether) is advancing. When making a purchase, it is recommended to recognize the GB/T 25763-2011 industrial standard to ensure that the purity is ≥99.5%.
NMP is widely used in the following fields due to its high solubility, low volatility and chemical stability:
Lithium battery manufacturing
Positive electrode coating solvent: Regulates the viscosity of the slurry and bonds the active substance with the conductive agent.
Conductive agent dispersant: Enhances the uniformity and conductivity of the electrode.
Electronic industry
Photoresist strippers, semiconductor cleaners (for IC/PCB/LED processes).
Polymer materials
Aramid polycondensation solvent, polyimide paint thinner.
Petrochemical industry
Butadiene/isoprene extraction, syngas desulfurization, lubricating oil refining.
Medicine and Pesticides
Drug synthesis intermediates, pesticide dispersants.
Others:
Coatings, dye auxiliaries, PVC tail gas recovery, industrial cleaning agents.
Acute toxicity:
Oral LD₅₀ in rats: 3914-7900 mg/kg (low toxicity).
Abdominal LD₅₀ of mice: 3050 mg/kg.
Potential risks:
Skin permeability: Easily absorbed through the skin. Protective clothing, gloves and goggles should be worn during operation.
Chronic toxicity: It may have reproductive toxicity or carcinogenicity (it is gradually being replaced by dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether in the European Union and the United States).
Exposure limit: Allowable concentration in the air ≤100 ppm (100 mg/m³).
Storage requirements:
Seal and nitrogen-filled to prevent moisture. Store in an environment with a temperature of ≤30°C, away from oxidants and fire sources.
