Diisodecyl Sebacate (DIDS, chemical formula: C₁₀H₁₈O₄·2C₁₀H₂₁) is a high-performance synthetic ester plasticizer and functional additive, which is esterified by sebacic acid and isooctyl alcohol (usually 2-ethylhexanol). Its unique chemical structure gives it excellent low-temperature flexibility, thermal stability and lubricity, and it is widely used in polymer materials, lubricants and catalytic systems.
(1) Plasticizer for polymer materials (core function)
Mechanism of action:
Inserted between polymer chains, weakening intermolecular forces, improving material flexibility and processing fluidity.
Advantages:
Low-temperature performance: Keep PVC/rubber from cracking at -40°C (automotive sealing strips, refrigeration equipment pipelines).
Migration resistance: Branched structure reduces exudation and extends product life.
Application scenarios:
Automotive interior (instrument panel, seat leather), medical catheters, food packaging film.
(2) Lubricant base oil/additive (auxiliary agent)
Function:
As a synthetic ester lubricant or viscosity index improver.
Mechanism of action:
Polar ester groups adsorb on metal surfaces to form an oil film, reducing friction and wear.
Maintains stable viscosity over a wide temperature range (-50°C~180°C).
Application areas:
Aerospace engine oil, compressor oil, biodegradable grease.
(3) Catalyst carrier/reaction medium
Solvents for homogeneous catalytic systems:
Dissolves metal catalysts such as palladium and platinum for hydrogenation and coupling reactions (such as olefin hydrogenation).
The high boiling point allows high temperature reactions (>150°C) to improve catalytic efficiency.
Phase transfer catalysis (PTC) additives:
Promotes mass transfer in solid-liquid multiphase reactions (such as alkylation reactions).
(4) Polymer processing additives
Rheology modifiers:
Improve the leveling of PVC paste resins and prevent cracking of spray coatings.
Antistatic agent carriers:
Dissolve ionic antistatic agents (such as quaternary ammonium salts) and disperse them evenly in plastics.
Low toxicity: Passed FDA 21 CFR 175.300 (food contact materials)
Biodegradability: OECD 301B test degradation rate > 80%
Non-phthalate structure: Complies with REACH/ROHS regulations, no reproductive toxicity risk
