4-chloro-3-fluoroaniline is used in the synthesis of 5-chloro-4-fluoro-1h-indole-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester; it is a key intermediate for HIV non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase phosphoindole inhibitors . 4-Chloro-3-fluoroaniline is also used in the synthesis of 3-dechloro-4-defluoro-4-chloro-3-fluorogefitinib, where it is an impurity in the tyrosine kinase inhibitor gefitinib.
